I have inserted many pictures from files. Now I need to know which picture
is from which file. How to go about it?

Unless the pictures were inserted as links, you can't. If they were inserted
as links, and you have them formatted as 'in line with text', finding the
paths and filenames is as easy as toggling the display via Alt-F9.

To add one bit to Macropod's reply. Word does keep track of the original file name of inserted graphics, but doesn't always make it
easy to get to
If you open a document in Word, then use File=>Web Page preview, then right click on the page in the browser and use View=>source
the original file name (without extension or original location) should show up if you use Ctrl+F (Find) and search for
o:title=
