I have used FrontPage for years. Now that it is no longer which would be the
best to switch too.

Microsoft Expression Web or Sharepoint Designer 2007?

I need simple to understand.

Better to just create a website and you don't need all the Sharepoint Extras?
Expression Web would be better probably. There are a lot of extras in the
sharepoint environment that would probably go unused on a simple website

I have decided, for reasons of simplicity and continuity, that I will
contininue to use FrontPage 2003 as long as my web host supports the FP
extensions.

Developers are making these newer software tools too complicated.

Have you reviewed the overviews of each program on their respective product
pages?

My perspective is that Sharepoint Designer is geared more for the person
developing websites for an intranet and those who are targeting Sharepoint
technologies. Expression Web is for folks who design websites for others for
a living. VWD Express that the Anonymous poster is a 1GB program, compared to
Expression Web 2 which is just over 100mb. VWD Express is for the budding
developer, not web designers.

Expression Web 2 supports PHP and Photoshop file import - these are both
highly desirable features for web designers, but not for the VWD Express type
developer oriented user who will be focused on .net stuff, or the Sharepoint
user who will be focused on Sharepoint stuff.

Here's a good example of a freelancer who is using Expression Web beautifully:

Here used Expression Web to create this photo gallery:
