Which VB Service Pack?

S

Sanjay Singh

I read in a book that com addins developed for Outlook do not need to have
the VB6 runtimes distributed for them.

A few questions:
Should we use the latest VB Service Pack?
If I use the latest service pack, do I still not need to distribute the VB6
runtimes with my setup files.

Thanks in advance
Sanjay

I have VB 6 SP 6 installed on some machines here but there have been some
reported bugs in that SP so you have to decide if you want to install it.
Check in the information about that SP to see if any of the bug fixes in it
take care of problems you are having or might have. If not let it go for a
while to wait for any fixes. One bug that springs to mind is a problem with
ListViews I believe it is when a user moves columns around.

I never have included the VB 6 runtimes in any of my COM addins and I've
never had a problem.

Start VB and the welcome screen shows the SP level. It's also probably in
Help, About.

I'd recommend SP 5, I've used it for a long time now. As I said though if
you have any of the problems that are solved in SP 6 then you might want to
download it and test it for your usage in a virtual machine or a machine you
can reformat if SP 6 causes problems.
