Which VS.NET version to accomodate Visio Enterprise?

I want to install Visio Enterprise from my MSDN DVD on a client
machine just long enough to acquire the design of an Oracle DB so that
I can then set up an empty DB on a laptop running Oracle Lite and test
some load routines I'm working on - and then uninstall it.

I *think* the client PC has VS.NET Enterprise installed on it - at
least the splash screen says "Visual Studio .NET Enterprise Developer"
on it.

However the Visio install routine seems to want something more. I
don't have the exact message text available, but it was to the effect
that the installer needed Microsoft something-or-other Enterprise.

The version of VS.NET I see is 7.1.3088.

Some of these PCs have had multiple versions (2002/2003) installed on
them.

Could I be trying to put Visio Enterprise 2003 on a VS.NET 2002 box?

Short answer:You can reverse engineer a database using the Visio
Professional version. If you want to forward engineer a database (based on
your model) you need the Visio Enterprise Architect edition which is in the
VS.NET Architect version.

Is that to say that I could extract the design of the DB using Visio
Professional, take the resulting Visio file to another PC, and feed it to Visio
Enterprise Architect in order to generate another instance of the DB from that
design?

being honest, I've never tried it...

Just completed the extract process. The .VSD is suspiciously small -
only 794 kb...but then it's probably effectively just text...

Going to try opening it up with Visio Enterprise tonite and then we'll
see what happens...

Why don't you just use the Oracle Export Import utility if you are
duplicating an Oracle DB structure? You should be able to 'exp' from
your original DB and 'imp' to the Oracle Lite version.

Beeeeeeg organization. You can't get anywhere near the DB.
