Who is using it?

Is there any way I can tell what user is using a
particular word file that is shared on the network? I
have a user that needs to make changes to a file but they
keep getting a message that somebody is using it.

If you're using W2K, you can right-click My Computer on
the desktop and choose Manage. From the left-pane, choose
System Tools > Shared Folder > Open Files. In the right-
pane you can see the name of the Open File, accessed By,
Type, #Locks and Open Mode.

I don't think this is available in W98 and earlier or XP-
Home but available in other Windows.

Hi, JoJo,

It's possible that no one is really using the file, but that the "locking
file" didn't get deleted when it should have. See
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm for the procedure to
fix it.
