Why adding new shapes to a legends is so tricky?

I just created a new shape and placed it in my document. I made sure that
User defined cells visLegendShape is set to 2. Still, I can't get the shape
to appear in a legend shape that I have in the document. Placing the shape
in the document and/or dragging it onto the legend does not have any affect
on the legend.

Could someone please let me know how to deal with it?

Bob --
Besides adding the User Defined Cell property, have created a name for your
shape? One way would be to create a custom stencil, add the shape to the
stencil, give it a descriptive name. Then, if you drag that symbol to the
drawing page, it should show up in the legend. Hope this helps.
