Why am I unable to "save" a document in MSWord, (it gets hung up)

Using Office 2003 Std. version w/ all updates as of 4/18/2006: neither
"save" nor "save as" functions work, the program stops responding. I can't
tell if this is an Office problem or Windows problem.
