why are input values changed by Excel

When I enter a value in Excel, the program automatically divides it by
10,000. This is not a formatting issue...the value is actually reduced and
appears as the reduced value in the formula bar. Can anyone help with this
please?

Tools|Options|Edit and uncheck "Fixed decimal Places". Alternately,
manually add the decimal point to your entries.
