This big white box is for a description of your problem, including version
of Word and Windows and the circumstances under which the problem is
occurring.

Are you seeing a status bar message that the document is locked for editing?
If so, either it is protected or, more likely, you have failed to activate
Word (Help | Activate Product) or it is a trial version that has expired.
