Why are my slides blank in MS Power Point slide sorter view

In one of my presentations in MS PowerPoint slide sorter view, my presenation
is blank apart from each slide header is showing. There is no coloured
background to slides or colour to text.

There's a "show formatting" button with two As on it. Click it and see if
that helps.
