Why are my subproject tasks disappearing when I unlink them in th.

I have several inserted subprojects. When I try to unlink them from the
master plan using the Task Properties Dialogue box, all of the subproject
tasks disappear.
I expected the tasks to stay in the master plan (and they did once). How do
I break the link without using the content?

All of the files were created using Project 2000 and that is what I'm using
to combine them.

Thanks!

JHR,
There are two types of consolidated master files. One is the dynamic
version wherein the subproject files are linked to the master. The other
is a static version wherein the subproject files are not linked to the
master.

The dynamic version is the default when building a master via
Insert/Projects. The "Link to project" box at the bottom of the Insert
Projects window is by default checked. With a dynamically consolidated
master the subproject files themselves do not become part of the master,
rather, the master simply has a pointer to each inserted subproject.
That is one reason the ID numbering sequence repeats for each inserted
subproject in a dynamic master.

The static version is built by unchecking the "Link to project" box.
With this version the subproject file data does become a part of the
master. It is basically similar to a cut and paste of each subproject
into the master. The master then becomes a snapshot in time of the
subprojects at the time of creation.

One difference between the two versions is that with a dynamic master,
changes to the master are reflected in the subprojects and vice versa.
This is not true of a static master. Once a static master is built, it
becomes an independent file. I suspect you were working with a mixture
of the two versions when you sometimes saw the subproject content stay
and at other times it was deleted.

Hope this helps.
