Why are my word documents being sent as zip files

Hi, first let me say I am technically challenged. Anyway, I have online
classes this semester and when I type my papers in microsoft word I save them
as a word document. When I upload my file to the message to send to the
professor it is evidently becoming a zip file because my professor says it is
coming across as a zip and that she can not view it. Does anyone know why
this is doing this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Word 2007 saves files in the new .docx file format by default, which is
a different file format than what Word 97-2003 uses. If you have Word
2007, and if your professor has Word 2003 or earlier, then you need to
"save as" a Word 97-2003 .doc file and send that to your professor.

If you by any chance have Quick View Plus installed, then you need to change its configuration to leave files unzipped.

After furious head scratching, Jenlynnhnz asked:

I think you need to look at another post to fix your problem. Search for
docx. becomes .zip when opened from. It seems that the mime types need to be
reset in Internet explorer.

You haven't given us quite enough info but if you are sending multiple files
from an AOL account, AOL automatically zips them into one.

You're assuming the poster is using 2007 and that she doesn't know what a
..zip file is.
