Why are powerpoint files not locked on Fileserver?

Hello!

We have a small office with a LaCie NAS attached to the network. When one
user opens a powerpoint file from the NAS, it's still possible for another
user to open and edit the same file. And the when it's saved, it's
corrupted. Word files are not possible to open by two users at the same
time. Any Suggestion why this is happening?
