Why do small square boxes appear where commas should be when I send an email?

I would hazard a guess that Word is using SmartQuotes (curly quotes) and the
font or coding set in your email is incompatible. There's definitely some
sort of mismatch in the settings. Try testing but turning off smartquotes
and see if that resolves the problem. Then start looking for set up
problems.

Smart Quotes shouldn't have any effect on commas, though.

Absolutely correct again! I read the subject line and saw 'comma s' and
assumed that the user meant 'apostrophe s' rather than commas.
