Why are some messages not importing from hotmail?

I use POP3 for my hotmail account. I was missing some messages that I knew
should have come to me the other day so I went to hotmail and finally found
them in the deleted items folder. I moved them back to the inbox and did a
send receive again. The messages "flash" in the inbox in outlook and then
are gone....they are moved to the deleted folder in hotmail as if they
transferred to outlook fine. Now that I know this is happening I am finding
more and more messages that it happens with. Most have attachments but not
all and it does not happen to all messages with attachments.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Are you using antivirus to scan incoming email? Rules to move it to other
folders? Junk mail rules in outlook? All of those will cause this to happen.

What is the view you use in the Inbox folder (in Outlook)?
