Why are some pictures blocked in emails received?

My emails may have multiple pictures and only some of them are blocked or
don't appear. What causes this?

Also, when I want to send an email, the Internet Explorer error message
appears; One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed . . . The page
may not display correctly. A small gray box appears above my signature line.
