Why are the most recent emails missing after restoring outlook?

I have recently had to restore outlook on a new windows installation. Before
the old installation was terminated and the partition formatted, the only pst
was saved to a cd. When I reinstalled and reconnected the new outlook
installation to the backed up .pst file, the most recent emails i.e. the past
2 months, were missing. In fact the whole "Inbox" folder was missing. Older
emails were contained in the folder "Recieved Mail". Any ideas how I can get
the most recent emails back, and why this has happened???

If File > Archive was used the 'Archive Older than' date may have caused this
problem. I can't think of a way to get them back as the drive has been
formatted.

Although there are Undelete programs.

Are you sure it was the only pst? Did you open the backup directly or
import?
