Why are there both a Junk folder and a Spam folder in Outlook?

Doug

I've been using Outlook 2007 with Vista 64 on a new laptop for the last month
or two, and just noticed that I have a Spam folder as well as a Junk e-mail
folder. I have been routinely reviewing my Junk folder and cleaning out its
e-mails, but I wasn't aware until today that other incoming e-mails (now over
500) were being automatically routed into the Spam folder, not the Junk
folder. I don't understand why there are two such folders nor why some
e-mails are being automatically routed into the Junk folder while others are
being automatically sent to the Spam folder. Can I just delete the Spam
folder and have only one e-mail folder (the Junk folder)? If so, will
incoming e-mails that are currently being automatically routed to the Spam
folder go instead into my Junk folder?

Thanks!

You most likely have a 3rd party security program installed that offers some
level of real-time scanning of e-mail for virus/junk. Disable that feature
and then you can get rid of the "spam" folder.
