Why are words delayed from showing, when working in Word?

When I am writing a simple letter, in Word, it takes 3-5 seconds, before the
words just entered show up on the screen...why the delay? My computer is
3.2Ghz, 2Gb ram, etc....top-end, running XP Pro SP2...I don't get it...I
don't have this problem in any other program, MS or otherwise.

The most common reasons are:

printer driver
graphics driver
corrupt normal.dot

Check that you have the latest driver available from the printer support
site and then delete and reinstall the printer.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, try the same for the graphics driver.
Finally, if neither of those has worked, try renaming normal.dot as
normal.bad.
