Why attachments opening in normal view?

I hate normal view, like page view. So want to ask:
Why are people's attachments opening in normal view? Thanks.
Anything I can do?

Clive & Paul have answered your second question, but as to the first...the
most likely reason is that Word docs have a tendency to Open in the manner
in which they were last Saved & Closed. That, of course, you can't control,
so your alternative is to switch to the view you prefer after opening the
doc.

How about providing Beth or John with an article to be posted on the MVP
site? There's a similar subject covered by Suzanne B. in the WinWord
articles, but it is PC-specific & primarily pertains to automatically
setting Zoom & View in *new* docs. Although I'v copped yours it would be
convenient to have it on the site.

I, for one, would be most appreciative (though I don't pay very well)

"Normal" view is the Fuel-efficient view. People use it for document
creation and editing.

It enables Word to run dramatically faster on a lower-powered machine.

It also shows you all of the command and control characters in the document,
so you are much more easily able to see what you are doing when you edit,
and to avoid the things that cause broken documents.

Normal view should be encouraged for long documents and for editing. But as
Kevs notes, you might not use it if you are simply trying to read the
document I do, because it is a non-paginated view so I don't have to
keep hitting "Next Page", I can just scroll smoothly. But some people don't
like that
