why can I note open autocad2002 .dwg files

All information I read tells me I can open a .dwg file extention as long as
it is version autocad2002 or older.
But Visio will not open the file?
Any ideas

Visio supports AutoCAD 2000 or older. Save your drawing as an AutoCAD 2000
file.

Correction. AutoCAD 2002 uses the same file format as AutoCAD 2000.
Therefore, you should be able to open a file created in AutoCAD 2002.
