Why can't I access the field templates pane?

When I am in Datasheet View and I click on the "New Field" button, the field
templates pane doesnt show up. Any idea why that is? Am I missing a template
of some sort?

I opened Access 2007 and started working on a new blank database.

I'm in Datasheet mode and working on a new table. I am adding fields and
records by hitting "tab". However, I realize I want to add a new field by
using the "New Field" button so I can choose a field template. When I click
on the "New Field" button (under the Fields & Columns section in the Table
Tools & Datasheet tab) the button does nothing for me. It does not add a new
field. I was told maybe I was missing some templates which is why the button
will not work.

I checked "C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates" and I
only have a fax cover sheet, and 2 Word macros (in addition to a Document
Themes folder which is virtually empty).

Any ideas?

I would recommend posting yor question over in one of the Access newsgroups.
The folks over there are top-notch Access gurus and really helpful people.
