why can't i find the Data Connections on the Tools menu

Hello,

I designed a form from a Data Source (Sql Database). I went through all the
steps to get the connection ....

It should be something like a travelrequest, where the person which requests
just has to add his name and all the other stuff about his person comes from
the database. It works :)

Now i'd like to publish my form to a sharepoint-teamsite-Document Library as
a template. Everytime I try to do this I get an Exception: It is not
possible to complete the action. Try again... Well, i did, without success.

I found this link by searching the internet for a solution:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-au/assistance/HP011093021033.aspx

I'm not sure if this could solve my problem. And even if not I'd like to
know, why I can't see DataConnection on the tools menu.

If somebody has a solution for this problem, it would be very kind to tell me.

Thanx in advance,

MW

Hi Adam,

I fixed the Problem right now.
The error was connected to the anti-virus software (PortalProtect)... There
was a license-problem, so I wasn't able to upload or publish any documents.

No I haven't lost the dataconnection. I wasn't sure if i need to publish the
dataconnection to the sharepoint, too. I'm not sure at all.... :)

Situation:

I have published my form as a template into my document library.
The form is based on a sql-database.
As I created the form I had also to create a new connection to the database.
And this connection is stored on my computer1.
I'm also abled to fill out the form from my computer two...
Question: is there a possibility to store the dataconnection-info to the
the document library? Because I don't want computer2 to access computer1 to
use the dataconnection.

I hope this helps you to help me to slove the problem :)

Thank you very much,

Greets, MW

Hi Adam,

here my precise steps:

- open Infopath
- File --> Design a Form
- New from Data Connection
- Database
- select Database
- connect to new data source
- Microsoft SQL Server
- typed in the the name of the sql server (used windows authentication)
- chose my database
- finish

and before clicking finish I have the choice where to save the
connection-data.... and I now would like to safe it on my sharepoint document
library... but it is not possible... is there another way to have the
information about the connection on the portal and not on a specific computer?

Yes

After the steps you mentioned go into tools on your form in design mode.

Select data connections, click add, click submit, click sharepoint library
and off you go.

What you need to make sure is that your submit button is configured to Rules
and custom code setting. Then add two submission rules, one to database and
one to sharepoint. I have helped someone else setup this on one of our IIS
test servers and works a dream.

I think that will answer your question

Hi Adam,

first of all I want to thank you.

I think I still have some difficulties with this topic...

I did all the steps you told me, but computer2 still wants to connect to my
computer1 to fill out the form.

here are my steps:

- in design mode --> tools --> data connection --> add -->submit data --> to
a scharepoint library --> http://myserver/name_of_Library (is this correct?)
- the next question is: what should I type in for the filename? is it the
name of my form?(note: I do publish my form as a template, means: it is
located in the forms folder inside my library)
- And what about the insert formular button (fx) on the right? what should i
do with it?
- I'm a relatively new Infopath-"user" please explain this paragraph to me..:
What you need to make sure is that your submit button is configured to Rules
and custom code setting. Then add two submission rules, one to database and
one to sharepoint

Thanks that you take the trouble,

Hi Adam :

Here is the message, that I get, when I try to fill out the from from my
computer2:

Microsoft ADO/RDS

This page is accessing a data source on another domain. Do you want to allow
this?

I'm not sure if this is normal?

I mean, the hole thing works. I switched of computer1 and I was still able
to fill out the form, but still got the message...
If you tell me this is normal, i can accept it, but it still annoys me :)

thanx in advance, MW

Hi Adam

I solved the problem with the fx-stuff.... by myself.

Markus

The boxes are an IE setting

Go into Internet properties and then Security, then click Custom and then
enable the Access Data Sources across Domains line to remove the boxes.

then won't it show the same data?

Or am i misundertanding the question

Cheers Adam
