Why can't I get past error code 80070634/ update 7.2.6001.784?

I was prompted to download an update for Windows Update prior to any other
downloads. When researching it says it's for Office 2003. I got a new PC
w/Vista in 2008. I shouldn't even have anything that old to update. When I
try to install, sometimes it's successful, then it tells me I still need it,
and it fails. I have followed the two (different) sets of instructions from
Windows Help and Support and Knowledge Based Articles. Under error code
80070643, it says change OSE to automatic (delayed start). The KBA says
change to manual, which mine was originally at. I can't even download
anything else from my "check for updates". I have to try to download directly
from Microsoft, and it's a pain! Please help, I'm not very computer savvy,
but I can print out and follow instructions. Thank you!

Get the latest WUA and then install and reboot.

Try MU again.
