Why can't I get spotlight to index Entourage files

B

Brent Cromley

I have been doing some reading on this and cannot understand why my
Entourage (11.3.3) cannot have its email messages indexed by
spotlight. I am on Max OS X 10.4.8.

Interesting to note, I have no Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter file
anywhere on my Mac. I am not sure where that is supposed to come from.

Also, the directory ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/ has
no values in it, which I gather from reading are the files spotlight
goes to index the Entourage email.

Any help would be appreciated. This copy of Office Mac was originally
on my 10.2 OS box (which doesn't have spotlight). I just dragged the
directory over to the new OS, but Office is supposed to auto-install
any items it needs. Everything works fine except for this.

Thanks.

Maybe the advice given on the following page will help:

Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter should be in root Library folder:

Library/ Spotlight/ Microsoft Entourage.mdimporter
Also, the directory ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Microsoft/Entourage/ has

No mdimporter file would result in no files being created.

The mdimporter file should have been installed with the 11.3.3 updater. Try
running the 11.3.3 updater again, then run 11.3.4

Update 11.3.3 contains all the previous updaters for Office 2004.
Update 11.3.4 requires that 11.3.3 update has been installed.

My spotlight indexes the Entourage email files, but when I click on them,
the emails do not come up. They just open up a new email with an
attachment, and the attachment opens another email with an attachment, and
so on...
