Why can't I have a cell more than 1 line deep?

These version upgrades should be more user friendly and have improved
features. I can't find a way to open an existing file or have cells with
more than one line in Excel. I'm just starting out using Office 2007, but so
far I'm very disappointed.

What exactly do you mean by a cell with "more than one line"?

The way to have more lines in one cell is the same as in previous versions; ALT-ENTER or Alignment>Wrap text.
Existing files can be opened by double-clicking them or, in Excel, via the Office button (top left, round)
