Why can't I insert a file in Outlook if I am using rich text?

If I switch to plan text, there is no problem. With rich text I get a
message that I am out of resources or memory and should try to close some
windows.

Tried it directly after a reboot already?

Without any configuration info it is hard to help you;
Version of Outlook?
Type of account?
Method of inserting a file?

I am using Windows XP Home w/SP1 and Outlook 2003. I am connected to my
company's mail server.

Yes, I have tried it directly after rebooting. I have also tried
FIXMAPI.EXE and detect and repair. Using Taskmanager, I see I have over
800MG memory available.

I insert the file by clicking on Insert then File on the menu bar.

I didn't realize the problem involved rich text vs plain text until I found
the same problem described in a user group some where on the WEB.
Unfortunately, there was no reason given.
