Why Can't I Insert Text into a Word Document I Have Written

I started working on Word today. I got two paragraphs in and needed to
change text in the upper portion of my document, but when I click my cursor
to insert where I need to, I am unable.

I'm unable to highlight, select or insert anything once I am past that line.
This has not happend before, what is wrong and how do I fix it?

Please help, I have to get this document out today!

You're welcome. FWIW, the cause of this problem seems to be having a Word
document open when Windows Update runs to install patches. Many people
choose to make updating semi-automatic (by choosing the Notify option
instead of full auto), but if you have no choice (because you're on a
corporate network, for example), then just be careful to close Word when you
leave the computer unattended during the time when updates are applied.
