Why can't I move a graphic in Word?

I am using Word 2003 and I inserted a jpg in my document. I am unable to see
the image except in print-preview and I am unable to do anything with the
graphic. I can't change the wrap or size or positioning.
Why does Word make the handling of graphics so difficult?

Your graphic should be visible in Print Layout view but not in Normal view.
Click View, Print Layout. Graphics are visible in Print Layout view and Print
Preview.

Right-click on your picture and select Format Picture. Click the Layout tab
and choose a wrap option. It sounds like yours is set to "In line with Text"
which associates the graphic with a specific paragraph.

Also under Tools, Options you can select a default for how pictures are
inserted with a specific wrap option (sorry I am now on Office 2007 and can't
remember the exact tab that is located).

When you click on a picture there are 8 handles (small squares for
resizing). Also Format Picture has a Size tab where you can type specific
sizes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks SandyH

My point was that I couldn't do anything at all with the graphic. The format
did not work and I couldn't select any wrap options. I did solve the problem
by unselecting "show picture placeholders".

I much prefer Lotus WordPro, which gives much more user-friendly frame
handling.
