Why can't I move and copy autoshapes? When I try they disappear.

This is a new problem to me - I've been doing [CTRL]-drag for years to
quickly and easily duplicate autoshapes. But not anymore - they won't do it -
the copies just disappear into thin air. All Snap to options are turned off -
what am I doing wrong?

If you mentioned what version of Word you're using it would be far easier to
provide a straight answer. There is a difference between 2008 & prior
versions but even in 2008 the technique still works. The difference should
be that when you release you're prompted with a contextual menu as to
whether you want to Move or Copy the item being dragged.
