why can't I open URL links from my Outlook 2003 e-mail?

When I receive mail with links imbedded or advertisments with imbedded links,
I cannot open the links directly from the message from my laptop. I just
recently loaded this laptop as it is new and the link has never worked like
my desktop or other laptops. Is there something set up incorrectly when I
installed Office?
