Why can't I open Word 2002 anymore?

I desperately need help with this one. I have tried everything, from
repairing from the add/remove programs in the control panel to uninstalling
and reinstalling. I cannot even open programs I created prior to this
problem. These are some of the things that happen. If I try to open a
document that was created in Word 2002 then it goes through the motions and
looks like it is opening and I can see the document, but then the EULA
agreement comes up and I click accept then the windows installer box pops up
and acts like it is installing-then it just disappers!
When I try to repair I get an error 1919. error configuring ODBC date
source. I did try the repair for this in MS and that gave another error MDAC
2.8 incompatable with this version of windows. I have thought of just buying
another version of Word, but I think it may have the same problems, because I
did have Corel Word and removed it and I noticed in MS that this could be a
problem, Sub-Keys missing from Registry. If anyone knows how I can fix that,

Thanks so much for the link and I did try nearly everything on the list>now I
can't print a document I was just able to print earlier. I think it was
removing data from the registry and now I can't print...any suggestions?

Well, forget that, I can print my document afterall. But, I still cannot use
word.

If you can print the document, then presumably you *can* open Word, as a
Word document can't be printed without opening Word.

I made a mistake in that comment, I do have capabilities in Works, and use
spreadsheet a lot! But I could not print for other reasons and then now I
now I can. But, I still cannot get Word back. I have tried even deleting
the data files in the registry as suggested in "word tips" Anymore ideas
would be much appreciated because now I cannot open any of my word docs or
edit them at all, and I do all my letter writing with word. HELP PLEASE!

I am continuing the same errors, not matter what I try. I think it is a
registry problem. Everytime I try to set-up Word 2002 from Works Suite i get
the same error: error 1919. Error configuring, ODBC error 13: could not load
the setup or translation library.
Verfy that the file Excel files (this part I don't understand, because I do
not have excel) exists and that you can access it / could not be loaded error
code 182 DBase Driver.
Does anyone know how I can repair this? I cannot view any docs created in
word. I thought of getting another word version but am afraid the same
errors would come up. However I did succeed install Corel Word Perfect Suite
8 - but I prefer MS Word.

thanks for the suggestion, but i tried that to and get an error trying to
install that fix.
