Why can't I print on envelopes or single labels using word 2003?

This just started happening recently, I have in the past been able to print
both envelopes and single labels but now, nothing. My inkjet printer will
print a full sheet of labels but not singles. I don't know if it is the
printer or the program?

Previous reports of this has been due to a poor printer driver (particularly
Brother and Lexmark) and sometimes it can be resolved by changing font and
sometimes by deselecting Background printing. However, check the printer
driver is up to date.

If I am using a Dell inkjet, are drivers prone to being out of date?, the
printer was purchased in 2004.

They do get updated occasionally: not as often as applications or graphics
driver but every year or so they will be updated. Frequently this is because
a servicepack for an application or OS, or the release of new versions
forces an update for the printer drivers.
