Why can't I print to MS Document Imaging anymore?

L

Laura1357

I had MS Document Imaging as a printing option until about 4 days ago,
coicidentally right after I installed the most recent round of Windows
updates. I have re-installed my Office Pro 2003 cd and MS Document Imaging
works again, but it is no longer a printing option when I am on web sites.
Any clues as to how I cna get this to be a viable printer option again>

you can try adding it via the printer control panel
or if its added, check the properties as it
should be assigned to "local port"

yeh, i can't see you paying
that kind of money either when
you can get the same cr**py advice
from us and for free!

will mdi launch when you type mspview from
the run command via start?

Yes. And I can still view old things in the program. But I can't use it as a
printer. And it seems to work mostly. It's only when I click on "Import"
that it tells me the program is not installed.

You should be able to reinstall the MODI printer driver feature
from your Office 2003 CD. Instructions courtesy of Windows MVP
Carey Frisch:
1. Close all running applications. If you have any Office
application running, the driver will not be installed properly.
2. Go to "Control Panel" and "Add or Remove Programs".
3. Click on "Microsoft Office 2003" and then click on "Change".
4. Check "Add or Remove Features" and click "Next".
5. On the bottom of the page check "Choose advanced
customization of applications." and click "Next".
6. Under Microsoft Office click on the + sign in front of
"Office Tools"
7. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Not Available".
8. Click on "Update". This will uninstall the MODI driver.
9. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to go back to the same location you
were before.
10. Locate the object "Microsoft Office Document Imaging",
click the icon and select "Run from My Computer".
11. Click on "Update".

not sure about the "import"
aspect. what i thought you
were having difficulty with was
with "print" to mdi from a program.

you said the mdi will run and you
can use it but you do not have its printer
driver and can't figure out how to get it
install. Right?

also, i am assuming that
your dep is enable. can you
check this via systems control panel,
advanced tab and performance..

Garfield - I tried this, but it still says that MODI is not installed, and I
still cannot access it as an available printer. Any other ideas? Thanks for
the help so far.

Thanks Data. I checked through these, but none of them quite pertain to my
problem, or at least none answer it.

I pointed out the "import" problem only to say that I get teh "not
installed" error at that time. I'm not sure if I ever had that error before
because I never knew that MODI was a program. I just saw that I had a new
printer last year and started to use it.

But now it's gone and I can't get it to add back at all.

hmm...?

i was sure that getting the virtual print driver installed
will solve the problem. but getting it installed seems
to be the hurdle here as it was on the msdn forum.

focusing solely on the print driver it appeared that there were
several methods/solutions offered on page 2 of that forum.

without plaigerizing and spending a great deal of time here
your question would eventually become a duplicate
of that thread on msdn. And from my perspective there is
not more that can be offered if it has not already been
said or done overthere.

basically installing and reintalling office didn't work.

the suggestions for installing the virtual printer as indicated
at msdn didn't work for you.

there is some info on this page that might help
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918215

maybe there is a remote possibilty that the wia service
might play a role (windows image aquisition).
check to see if this is enable under your admin tools.

else, i am running out of suggestions.

eventhough my mdi works fine, i use
acrobat to print webpages...

if i find something else, i'll keep you
posted (no pun inten'd)..
