why can't i send/receive emails in outlook when i update office

every time my daughter checks her email on yahoo, I can't access my emails
(send or receive)and the same thing happens when I update either office or
windows. What am I doing wrong or how do I fix this problem?

More info, please...like:

1) What version of Outlook?

2) Does your daughter access her Yahoo mail through Outlook or does she
just use their web interface? I can't imagine the web interface causing this
problem. And if she is using Yahoo through Outlook, do you both use the same
Windows and/or Outlook logins or separate ones?

3) Do your personal folders completely disappear when this happens or do
you see all your old data but are just unable to send and receive new
messsages?
