Why can't I use Memo Data types in InfoPath?

This is a big problem especially when I am trying to push InfoPath to our
Organizationion of 50,000 plus. Is there a work around? Will this be
addressed in the future. I think it is a waste of time to have a rich text
box when you can't even use more that 255 characters.
