Why can't Macintosh computers view my Publisher 2002 site?

I have created and published a web site using Publisher 2002 on a Dell
computer running Windows XP (SP3). When I asked friends using Macintosh or
Apple, they can not view the page. I have gone to their homes and all that is
visible is some text and boxes where images would be. The boxes have a little
'x' in them. It seems anything actually created with Publisher is not
viewable but other text, like information on the page, is visible. MS says it
is Dell's problem because it is OEM, Dell says they want $239 which offers a
year support that I don't need, and I searched and can find no answers. I am
seeking a way around this since I know it can be done but how?

Windows XP doesn't have a Service Pack 3. Web design browser compatibility is
not a subject matter covered by "tech support", be it Microsoft or Dell. Get
a book on web design or google on the phrase "browser compatibility". Every
web designer faces browser compatibility issues regardless of the tool being
used. You searched you say? Searched for what? If you searched this forum for
browser compatibility issues you would find numerous threads. Should be
plenty of recent ones even. Google "groups" is an excellent resource to
search Microsoft's forums. What would such threads inform you of.... that
Publisher is not a web design tool, that Publisher is designed to exploit
Internet Explorer, that Publisher is not designed to be easily browser
compatible, that Mac's typically do not support Publisher webs - that is
mostly the Safari browser, try IE or FireFox on the Mac and compare. Also did
you update Pub 2002 to the latest Service Pack? If yes did you publish with
File, Export (for the best chance at browser support) or did you publish with
File, Save as (don't use that) ?

Thank you for taking time to help. It seems you do a lot of that and I have
learned a lot from you here. I had not searched for "browser compatability"
since on the MAC I was using IE but I did not check the version. I do have
the latest SP for Pub 2002 SP3. I did use file/save as; now I am trying the
export and tomorrow will check on my friend's MAC. The site is
www.CabaretOle.com and if it works then I thank you twice. Do you think Front
Page is better for browser support? I realize all support might not be
possible but I would like to find the page working for IE on MAC. Thank you
once and maybe twice and probably a third time for a future question.

I think that IE for Mac typically does poorly. I think it's because it's an
old version that has never been updated by MS. From what I hear FireFox for
Mac is the best browser option for the Mac. And that's speaking for all
sites, not Publisher specific. I just checked the site and it looks as if
you may be transitioning to FP. To answer your question about FP... well, it
depends. Basically the answer is Yes, but, it could be No. See it depends on
how you use FP. You can set options in FP and use FP in such a manner that
the code it will write for you can have just as much compatibly problems.
But it does have tools to help you with compatibility. I'd recommend
visiting the FP newsgroup and asking for suggestions on how to best tweak
FP's numerous options to achieve optimal results.

I don't know who you are or why you take so much time to help. I do know you
have a lot of knowledge and I can't believe you looked at the site and saw I
switched to front page. Somehow, because of the letters following your name I
thought you might be connected to Microsoft. I only know, and this just since
I discovered this site, that you take time to help and you know what you are
talking about. I notice the little note to Erika and wondered. I clicked on
it and I am so sorry for whatever your connection. I will finish this and go
to www.planthopeforhearts.net becasue I was touched but more so to thank you
for your kindness. My only hope is whatever your connection the pain
subsides. In my experience it does it not, you just get used to it, but to a
stranger, from a stranger, I thank you for being a friend.
