Why can't Office Update scan my o/s for XP updates?

My o/s is XP Pro w SP2 (installed last week), and now Office Update for some
reason can't scan for Office XP updates. If the Windows installer was
changed during the update from the XP home edition, why is it showing up a
week later? Is there some way I can fix the installer?

Windows Installer changed from version 2.x to 3.0 with Windows XP SP2, but
this is not expected behavior. What error message are you seeing?
