I installed Office 2001 for Mac on PowerPC 7300/200 ...readjusted memory requirements, have plenty of HD
....processor is 604e..virtual memory off. At Start-up Computer is stuck at "Optimizing font suitcase" or I
uninstall & start over without fonts suitcases! What now please anyone? Friend gave me their CD and it loads &
works fine at school on an iMAc. Many Thanks in advance to al

When Word hangs at the point where it is optimizing fonts, the most common
reason is one or more corrupt fonts, or even possibly a corrupt Fonts
folder. You can create a new Fonts folder by renaming the fonts folder, or
moving it anywhere outside the System folder. Restarting the computer will
then create a new, empty, Fonts folder. Launch Word and see if the problem
occurs. If it does not, load the fonts from the old fonts folder 50% at a
time into the new fonts folder, restart the computer, then test Word again.
By repeating these steps you will be able to find the one or more fonts that
may be causing the problem.
