Question: why can't user update '% Work complete' field from PWA? What
pre-conditions must exist for a user to update % completed?

When viewing user's tasks (PWA=>Tasks), user is unable change '% work
complete field.

Other useful facts for diagnosis
================================
1) Progress reporting method = percent of work complete.
2) The OLAP cube built today for the first time.

Note to self: tested with PMA275guest acount.

Has your organization's default method of tracking progress always been %
Work Complete? Or was it something else and you changed it recently? Let
us know.

I do not believe this has ever been changed. Is there a test I can run to
provide you with this information? Is there any other information I can
provide?

If we could diagnose this by Sunday night, I would be very grateful. I am
open to messaging \ e-mail.

Thanks,
Raymond

Is it necessary to have the OLAP cube built for this functionality?

No, there is no test you can run. You might ask the PM of the project
containing the task to do the following:

1. Open the project in question
2. Select the task in question
3. Click Tools - Customize - Published Fields
4. Make sure the method of tracking in the upper left corner of the dialog
is set to % Work Complete
5. Click OK

Let us know if this helps. And no, I do not provide on-demand solutions for
problems, nor does anyone else in this newsgroup. If that's what you need,
get out your credit card and call Microsoft Support.

Thank you for directing me to this dialog box. This may put me on the path
to diagnosis.

I followed your instructions: the upper left corner of the dialog is set to
% Work Complete. At the bottom left I added the field, '% complete', to
'fields in the task view'. This has resulted in some progress: what I mean
by this is that I can now get the cursor and delete PWA-Tasks '% completed'
field, but unable to change it from 0%. Maybe this is a clue?

PWA - tasks 'remaining work' field was changable to 0 hrs: and zero hours
only (by deleting the current value). For some reason, these fields will not
accept numeric input.

The % Complete field is not the same as the % Work Complete field, so you
are going down the wrong path. I recommend that you remove the % Complete
field from that project and republish the assignments again. Regarding your
original problem, has the team member actually entered progress on the task
in question? If so, the PM cannot change the method of tracking for this
task until it is completed. Let us know.

Thanks for field info. I have followed your instructions and remove the
field via the Project Client and publsihsed all.

I have created a new sample (5 task) project this morning and assigned it to
a guest \ dummy account. The guest account suffers from the PWA symptoms
where the cursor can delete the value in the PWA fields but can not enter new
data.

OMG!! I am using Avant Browser. It has worked perferctly up to this point.
This is the cause of the problem: I tried to enter data with IE and I am no
longer experiencing this problem. The reason I wen to Avant is that it
manages multiple IE sessions.

Dale, I appreciate your help. I have been very happy with the two books you
and Gary have published. Are you planning on new book \ update for the 2007
EPM?

Regards,
Raymond

Thanks for letting us know about the browser issue and how that solved the
problem. Yes, we are in the process of writing our Project Server 2007
books and curriculum. Thanks!

Ray:

Perhaps a side-affect of the recent IE update around Active X?

Gary,
I don't have enough information to say. I think that this problem was known
one year ago. This product is very complex: using unsanctioned methods \
tools can cause unintended symptoms.

I installed Project Server 2007 and SQL2000, and yesterday I could update
task progress, but today when I open the task assignment details, the task
name, save and calculate again button is gray, and I can't update the task
progress, I didn't lock the task, and all of the tasks can't be updated, even
I login on with project manager account, I need help.
