why connectors lines are not active in my drawing toolbar?

Connectors are only active when you're in the Drawing Canvas. To enable
the Drawing Canvas in Word 2003 or earlier, either click on Tools |
Options | General | check the "Automatically create drawing canvas when
inserting AutoShapes" box | OK, or click on Insert | Picture | New Drawing.
