Why did "Display as" change and mix up in my contacts?

My e-mail addresses changed the "display as" names and dropped some email

The "Display As" field has no bearing on the sort order of your Contacts. The
"File As" setting, however, does. Care to be more explicit in your
description? Please include your Outlook version as well.

Thanks. My Outlook is 2003 Version 11.0.
The problem is that somehow the "display as" line in the Contact information
has jumped/slid/moved to other Contacts so the recipient receives an email
that appears to be addressed to someone else. This really ran amok in my
groups; so I deleted them and plan to start over building the group listings.

Let us know if any problems remain when you are finished. I have no idea what
you mean by "group listings".

This same problem happened to me this monring. In contacts, while the
emailis listed as correct, the "display as" filed has changed to that of
another contact. The probelm is you think you are sending an email to
the correct contact, but the email gets redirected and sent to the
"display as" email listed for the contact.

My admnistrator says that there were no viruses and I cannot find out
any info ona fix for this problem. This is major problem since I have
alomst a 1000 contacts. I would have to go through each individually
and change.
Any help is appreicated.

There is no information here. Provide clearer and more detailed information.
To what view are you referring? By what method are you selecting recipients?
What Outlook version? What information store? What steps produced the
problem? Do you run any sync software or add-ins?
