Why did my file disappear from my flash drive while I used Word?!

In Need of Help

I was adding my final touches on a research paper that's due in a few hours.
And as I tried to save it for the last time, I was unable to. Microsoft Word
closed, and my file was no longer in my flash drive!!!! I cannot locate it
anywhere. It's not even under my recent documents in word. How can that be?

Well you (unfortunately) learnt a very tough lesson. Never use Word directly
with a flash drive or any other type of removable media. Always save and
open from the local HDD and copy to/from the removable drive.

A brief explanation of why is that Word creates loads of temp files in the
target folder and when it saves, it moves to and from the temp files to
build the final document. Flash drives are just not up to the punishment.
