Why did Powerpoint text copy/paste suddenly default to 'HTML forma

For years while doing copy/paste in Powerpoint, paste text was always same
font as copy text, now suddenly paste is using 'HTML format' causing font
changes. Can't find way to reset back to what must have been a default
setting. Help!
