Why disable norton security in order to send/receive in outlook?

In order to send and receive messages, I have to disable my Norton Security.
This is dangerous, but haven't figured a way around it. While i wait to see
what Norton and Microsoft have to say, I thought I would see if you have
experience this? Am running Office XP (2002).

Dear,
You don't need to disable NIC(norton internet security) in order to work
outlook properly. From NIC you can exclude those programs which required to
communicate to the internet world. How about IE - is it working?
Scan the programs(not for virus) again from NIC and give an exception to OL,
don't disable and work.

Just turn off E-mail checking in Norton. It's really a redundant
feature, since Norton checks all email once it is on the HD when you
do a virus scan.
