Why do I get a keystroke delay when inputing in 2003 Outlook?

Not in Word, not in Excel do I get any kind of delay. If I put my arrow to
an incoming message, and try to open it, it takes 5 seconds to open the
letter. Plus if I hit any key to input for a message 3-5 second delay and
then I might have a burst of 3 to four keystrokes and then it freezes.
