Why do I get an "Abnormal Program Termination" message in Office .

I have Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003. When using Word, I
often receive an "Abnormal Program Termination" message, and then have no
option but to lose everything I've done. It's incredibly frustrating... any
ideas?

Without any other information, absolutely no idea.

What OS and Servicepack is installed? Is Office patched up to date? Is it a
local installation or are you on a network and where do you save your
documents? Have you updated your graphics and printer drivers? When you
reopen Word, does it not come up with the Recovery window? Have these
documents not bee saved at all?

Most importantly, what are you doing when the error occurs?

I have Windows XP Home Edition, with Service pack 2. I am pretty sure my
Office is updated; I checked the Office update page last night and installed
a couple of things, which seemed unrelated and didn't solve the problem. I
am not on a network; it is a single home computer. Last evening, I did not
get the recovery window when I reopened Word, although sometimes in the past
I have. Have I accidentally changed a setting so that Recovery doesn't come?
Of course, last evening I was typing letters, and hadn't saved the letter
when the termination message came, so that's probably the reason for no
recovery...

I'm not positive, but this may be something that is happening only since I
got Service Pack 2; it hasn't always been the case, anyhow.

Thanks for your reply,
Charles
