Why do I get an error that the MSI must be launched thru setup?

Everytime I open an office application such as Word, Excel, etc. I get an
message stating that office is preparing to install and then I get an error
message that "The MSI must be launched through setup". I have uninstalled
office and then re-installed it but I still get these message. Does anyone
know why this happening and how do I get rid of this problem?
