Why do I get duplicate emails in Outlook 2007?

Sorry to ask again, but I don't see any definitive answers to this problem.

I am using Outlook 2007 on XP Pro operating system.

1. When I retrieve emails, I sometimes get duplicates of emails that I
received earlier, often a week or more ago. These are from a POP3 server, and
I do not leave copies on the server.

Is this a problem acknowledged by Microsoft? Is there a fix?

2. I retrieve emails from four different POP3 accounts. On one of those
accounts, I DO leave copies on the server. This account regularly retrieves
four or more copies of emails. I can understand why leaving copies on the
server would make the duplication problem more likely, but there should be a
solution.

Any specific help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the response, and the informative reading. However, I don't
think I've found my solution.

1. My rules are set up correctly.
2. I am not using accounts with multiple aliases.
3. Profile recreation is not an issue.
4. I don't do any sychronization.

I am not receiving multiple copies at one time. As I said, some of the
duplicates are for emails I received several days ago, and I have done many
Send/Receive operations in the meantime. It's a "sometimes" problem.

The virus scanner/firewall possibility is my best bet. I use Trend
PC-cillin. I disabled the email scans almost as soon as I installed Office
2007. However, almost every time I exit Outlook, I get one of those "Trend
Micro Anti-Spam for Outlook has encountered a problem..." messages. That
indicates to me that the Trend software is still running. I will research
that possibility.

Meanwhile, I will entertain any other helpful suggestions.

Very likely Trend is your issue then. Disabling the mail scanner is not the
same as disabling its integration with Outlook. See the documentation of
your virus scanner on how to disable that properly.

Thanks, I'm looking into it. But so far Trend's instructions for removing the
Anti-Spam software has been very detailed and very wrong. (Directing me to
remove things from the register that aren't there.) I'll keep after it.

Thanks for getting me started in the right direction.
