Why do I get error too many recipients when sending to mutiples

When I send an email to a number of addresses some of them are not delivered
and I get an error message from the administrator, saying "Error Too many
recipients". Can anyone give me an answer?

Is there an error number attached to this? 30 does not seem to be a very
large number of recipients.
